SMS Datacenter
SMS Datacenter Data Center, USA
The SMS Datacenter located in Irvine, California was completely upgraded in 2009 as demand for capacity has increased for both power and cooling. The PUE (Power Utilization Efficiency) is always being reduced through technology upgrades. The facility meets the highest availability standards for housing mission critical computer systems, and is SOC2 audited annually. The purpose built facility contains a total area of 41,000 square feet and is a fully secure, disaster safe, state of the
art steel structure with complete electrical, mechanical, and environmental back-up systems. The facility has power generation capability housing both internal and external diesel generators including three fully 2N redundant Powerware UPS systems. There is over 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel onsite providing over 72 hours at 100% load of up time. The Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) are tested monthly, which can simulate the loss of utility power. The infrastructure includes a self-contained, automatically controlled environment maintained by over 6.5 million BTUs of air-cooled CRAC units with dedicated roof mounted condensers for the exclusive use of the raised floor. Each APC cabinet has three phase, 208 Volt redundant powers strips (PDUs) with both copper patch panels and fiber optic enclosures providing a redundant plug and play fabric. To prevent unauthorized entry to the facility, SMS Datacenter has 24x7 staff onsite, and a security system
that controls access into and within the building, automatically limiting access to sensitive areas. Access is also logged automatically within a secure database. Additionally, cameras are installed both inside and outside the building with DVR recording. With displays in the fully manned Network Operation Center (NOC) and at the security desk, the premises are constantly monitored by a comprehensive security system. A uniform guard also operates security after business hours.
There is infrastructure that can be brought online to provide an additional 2000 Amps of Power from a separate dual substation transformer feed with both generator paralleling gear and ATSs. Redundancy can also be achieved in cooling by bringing the existing redundant 270 ton cold water chillers online.
