Network Operations Center: Safety, Security, Reliability
The Shore.Net NOC (Network Operations Center) is located in the former New England Telephone and Telegraph Lynn central office, fully renovated and built-out as an Internet data center in 1997. The facility complies with all current state and municipal building codes and industry-standard best practices for data center design, including systems for fire safety, security, electrical power distribution and cooling.
Fire Suppression
The Shore.Net building is protected throughout by a dry sprinkler system, with equipment-safe FM-200 fire suppression systems in all critical network and data center areas of the facility. The system is actively maintained and tested every six months.
Security
The Shore.Net facility has 24x7 central station supervised monitoring for fire and intrusion alarms, DVR video surveillance and proximity card reader access control to all network and server rooms. All private servers are housed in locked cabinets.
Electrical Power
The NOC is served by dual public electrical grid connections providing 500KW of 480V three phase power, with automatically-transferred emergency back-up power supplied by two diesel generators, exercised weekly and serviced under maintenance contract. We store fuel for at least 24 hours run-time at full load and have a local contract for diesel fuel supply in case of an extended utility outage. Data center power is stepped-down to 208V/three phase, UPS-conditioned and distributed to equipment at up to 5KW per rack power density.
Cooling
All data center rooms are cooled by multiple independent rooftop HVAC systems to ensure adequate cooling capacity in the event that any units need to be shutdown for repairs or maintenance. All equipment is regularly maintained under service contrac
