The way in which businesses manage their data has evolved tremendously over time. Gone are the days when servers are located in a corporate office, with all IT assets on-premises. As the cost of data connections decreased, more and more of that data was pushed first to colocation environments, and then to the cloud or hybrid data centers. Network monitoring creates the path for these new software-driven technologies to flourish, according to the authors. With network monitoring IT teams can clarify capacity and performance, as well as ensure successful delivery of new technology. For this reason, the authors challenge technical professionals to look at network monitoring as “rich opportunities for innovation and advancement.”

According to Park Place, “the bottom line is this: the only way to adopt new technologies coherently and defensibly is with strong network monitoring and management.”
